Nairobi County Gubernatorial contestant Peter Kenneth has challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that the August 8 elections are free and fair.

Kenneth, who faces incumbent Governor Evans Kidero (ODM), Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko (Jubilee) and Miguna Miguna (independent) in the next month’s polls urged the IEBC to quickly solve the ballot paper printing row to enable it hold a credible poll.

“Kenyans are not ready for sideshows from the body tasked with managing elections. They are also not concerned with who prints the ballot papers but, rather, with a free and fair election come the eighth of August,” Kenneth said while addressing residents of Mukuru Kwa Reuben in Nairobi.

The former Gatanga MP’s sentiments come days after the High Court nullified the presidential ballot paper printing tender given to Dubai-based firm, Al Ghurair and ordered IEBC to re-advertise the tender and ensure public participation.

IEBC has however, appealed the High court ruling, a move that could likely jeopardize its preparedness given that the election is only 25 days away.

During the campaign, Kenneth highlighted his vision for Nairobi, saying that he was keen to restore the city’s lost glory by taming the increased traffic, ensure smooth garbage collection, drive away cartels from the City Hall, and improve key infrastructure in the city.
