Siaya County governor Cornel Rasanga has begged voters in the County to re-elect him in order to save him from being“bankrupt and hopeless.”
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate for Siaya governor is facing a an uphill task in his reelection bid from an independent candidate, Rarieda Member of Parliament Nicholas Gumbo who ditched the ODM following unfair primaries in which Rasanga was controversially declared the winner.
In a meeting with teachers from his county, Rasanga said that if he is not re-elected in the August 8 polls, he will be “bankrupt and hopeless” because he can’t separate personal funds from county coffers.
“What I have been telling people by the way is that if I don’t go back to that office I will be a bankrupt person, a very hopeless person because I don’t know which money is mine and which one is for the government,” Rasanga said.
During the meeting held in his Segere home, Rasanga pleaded with the teachers to support rally behind him, saying he was serving in a new environment.
“I want you to remember one thing, teachers, I worked for government for 32 good years. But in the government you just go and occupy an office that had been occupied by others and so it is very easy to continue working.”
“But you teachers know how to start a school is a very difficult thing, and to start a government the way I started is equally very difficult,” Rasanga added.
Rasanga said that given a second term, he will put things in order as he had now gathered enough pace and ground to continue transforming the county.
“As I invited you to my home, it is just a question of sharing. When we share I will be able to listen to what you are saying and improve on them,” he added.
