President Uhuru’s 10-Point Manifesto

It was pomp and color as President Uhuru Kenyatta launched his re-election manifesto on Monday at the Safaricom Stadium Kasarani in Nairobi, with jobs; free secondary school education, expanded health care and social welfare system topping the list of agenda’s in President Uhuru’s second term in office.

The President’s administration seemed to attract key voter constituencies with pledge to create over 1.3 million new jobs every year, expand the free maternity care, and reduce the cost of subsidized fertilizer to Sh 1,200 for all farmers.

Further, over 500,000 low cost houses will be constructed to reduce the burden of high rent rates, 57 large-scale dams across the country will be built to ease the water shortage, while the last mile electricity connection program will aim to connect all Kenyans to the power grid.

Elderly persons

President Uhuru Kenyatta has also pledged to double the number of elderly persons in the country benefitting from the cash transfer program as well as eliminate corruption in procurement of Government services and goods by digitizing all government tenders.

“Jubilee government has already delivered improved security, economic stability and jobs. We have expanded access to affordable health care and modernized public services. But we now need to redouble our efforts to build upon the foundations of success. The task is not yet complete. The work must continue and should not be derailed,” Uhuru said.

“I seek to continue to serve as President of our great country because I have the vision, experience, skills and trust to deliver the stability, continuity and responsible governance that our country needs at this critical moment in our development journey,” he continued.

Create jobs

Jubilee also promised to avail 1.3 million jobs every year and collaborate with county governments to have each county have at least one industry. Uhuru further said he will ensure that every graduate leaving university and Technical and Vocation Education Training Centre (TVET) will be entitled to a 12-18 months paid internship program in partnership with Private sector.

Kenyans above 70 years will receive free health insurance cover through National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Education

If reelected, Uhuru will expand the free primary school program to cover free day public secondary schools in Kenya starting January in order to achieve 100 per cent primary to secondary transition.

Loans under the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) will be doubled, as well as increase bursary allocations for TVET and university students.

Housing

In his second term, at least 500,000 affordable house units will be constructed in 5 years across the country in partnership with banking institutions, private developers, manufacturers of building materials and cooperatives with an aim to reduce the rents by 50 per cent.

“(We will) Establish a National Social Housing Development Fund and create alternative financing strategies to finance low cost housing and the associated social and physical infrastructure,” pledged the party.

The free maternity care program will be expanded to include government funded NHIF cover for every mother and her child for one year.

By 2020, every Kenyan home will have been connected to reliable and affordable electricity.

57-large-scale dams will be constructed to support small-holder agricultural irrigation and partner with private sector to put at least 1.2 million acres under irrigation to boost food security.
