A Kisumu man who was on death row for 15 years has been marshaling resources that he will be using to drum up support for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid, after the head of state rescued him from the gallows.
50 year-old Michael Ochieng Odongo shocked many after selling his two acres of land for Sh100,000 each, to raise funds that will enable him traverse his area and beyond wooing residents to give President Uhuru a second term in office in the August 8 elections.
The man, who says he is now reformed after spending years behind bars, told the Standard that he was targeting Sh300,000 to embark on a fierce campaign to ensure that the head of state garners enough votes to secure a second term. He said that he was targeting at least 3,000 votes for President Uhuru Kenyatta, vowing to spend his last penny and time to ensure that he achieves his target.
Odongo said that President Uhuru’s intervention saved him from the hangman’s noose after he was condemned to die. “I am not doing this to gain favors from him,” he said.
Odongo spent several years at the Nakuru Main Prison after he was found guilty for robbery with violence in 2001.
KULA kwa Uhuru; KURA kwa…
KULA kwa Uhuru; KURA kwa Raila.
Ndugu Ochieng Odongo: This…
Ndugu Ochieng Odongo: This is bribery. You might end up in jail again! Please don’t do it! The man you want re-elected is a billionaire. He does not need your “peanuts.”
