Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has defied the stance of Jubilee party on the Opposition nominees to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) and thrown his weight behind National Super Alliance’s presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka’s son, Kennedy.

According to the controversial Member of Parliament it, it was wrong for Kennedy to be denied the chance on the grounds of being a son of Kalonzo Musyoka, and not his qualifications.

“I express my support for Kennedy Musyoka. When his name comes up in the National Assembly, I will vote for and support his candidature. I have listened to voices that are opposed to his candidature and I am not convinced,” Kuria said on Saturday.

He added, “As a matter of fact, I am convinced that so many Kenyans are denied opportunities because they are not from well-known families and I say that is very wrong. But it is equally wrong to deny a Kenyan an opportunity, simply because they are from a known family.”

Kuria said that those opposed to Kennedy’s nomination were doing so on a personal level, insisting that it was not a Jubilee Party position, but his personal.

“Everyone needs to be judged on their own merit,” he insisted.

“We have not taken a corporate decision.  I would want to believe those members who are opposed to Kennedy’s nomination did it on their own personal stand.”

Kuria vowed that he will support Kennedy’s name once tabled before the National Assembly, urging other colleagues to do so.

“He has represented the spirit of the Constitution which is all about fairness. For me, all I would ask in this process is fairness. I believe I am qualified; I just want an opportunity to serve my country,” Kennedy Musyoka, a trained lawyer said during a press conference with Moses Kuria.

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale has been leading other Jubilee leaders against Kennedy’s candidature, accusing the Wiper leader of nepotism in the nomination.

“Unlike Oburu Odinga who I now consider to be intelligent, Kennedy Musyoka doesn’t want to listen to me and he will be taught a lesson. You can quote me on that, we will lobby and we will make sure he does not get that position,” Duale said as he stressed that his statement “was not personal or driven by vendetta” early this month.
