Police in Malindi, Kilifi County arrested two men for stealing three year-old crocodiles from a farm located in Malindi. According to Malindi police boss, Matawa Muchangi, the suspects believed to be aged about 30 years were arrested at around 5pm on Wednesday while trying to sneak the dangerous reptiles from Mark Stephen’s farm.
“The suspects had concealed the three crocodiles in the sacks, but the third crocodile had died due to suffocation.” He said.
The duo, Yeri Yaa and Vincent Mwadori, work at the Malindi Crocodile Farm belonging to Mark Stephen and were arrested after CCTV cameras captured them stealing the reptiles.
The two are said to have experience in handling crocodile and made use of their skills to put the creatures into three sacks and jumped off the fence of the farm.
Muchangi said that Mark Stephen alerted the police after hearing a commotion at the farm and viewed the two in his CCTV cameras.
“Police arrived at the scene and found the suspects had not yet taken off with the crocodiles. They will be arraigned today on theft charges,” said Muchangi.
The animals are kept as pets or for their meat.
