National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has broken the silence after he was snubbed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during this year’s Madaraka day celebrations on Thursday.

Speaking on Friday, the opposition chief refused to blame President Kenyatta and Ruto for ignoring him stating that his intention was to attended the event to mark the important day when the country was granted self-rule from the British colonial government at the invitation of the government.

The former Prime Minister said that he did his role by attending the national event at Kabiru-ini Show grounds in Nyeri and left the rest to the organizers.

“I received an invitation to attend the national day celebrations and I honored it. It was their responsibility to recognize me, I leave it to the people to judge the way they (government) handled the issue. I don’t want to appear to be complaining. “Hiyo ni shauri yao (It is up to them). The problem is theirs. This was not supposed to be a Jubilee affair. Honestly, I would have done it differently.” Raila stated.

The ODM party leader however lashed at the Jubilee administration for using the event to campaign for their re-election. “This should never have been used as a campaign platform, where one party campaigns for re-election,” Odinga lamented.

Didn’t the man say he wasn’t going to complain? He’s even trying to make it about him “… I would have done it differently..”
Omera needs to be patient. Win the damn election in august. Then, do the national holidays your way.
    It’s that simple.

  2. Raila…

  3. We should not make it a big…
We should not make it a big deal that NASA leader Raila Odinga was not invited to make an address during the Madaraka Day function in Nyeri County. The fact that the former Prime Minister was sent an official invitation is in itself a confirmation that the National Government recognises him as an important leader in this country. The honourable leader of the Opposition sat on the dias with other VIPs. Indeed, protocol was strictly observed as the only other persons who spoke before the President was the host, Governor Samuel Wamathai and the Deputy President William Ruto. Still, there must be a good reason organisers of the ceremony limited the number of speakers during the historic event. We should note that this was the first time Nyeri County was hosting the national holiday, seeing that previous ones were held in the capital city of Nairobi. In the past, President Kenyatta and his deputy have treated the former Premier with civility and decorum in many forums. So let’s not make a big fuss about a single event that dictated public protocol to be followed.
