Uhuru Meets Trump at G7 Summit in Italy

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday met with United States President Donald Trump before the start of the 2017 G7 summit in Italy.

The two heads of state were pictured shaking hands shortly before a performance by the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra in the ancient Greek theatre as part of the G7 Summit.

President Uhuru arrived in Taormina on Friday and is expected to showcase Kenyas achievements at the G7 Summit as well as meet leaders of the worlds most powerful countries in terms of economy and military strength.

Uhuru meets Trump

G7 leaders include Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister Theresa May, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, newly elected President Emmanuel Macron of France, US President Donald Trump and Italy’s Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

Uhuru arrived at Sigonella Airbase in Sicily before taking a helicopter to Taormina, a seaside resort heavily guarded ahead of the summit.

Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohamed said the invitation of Kenya to the G7 indicated that Kenya had made immense progress in its relationships on the global stage, adding that most important leaders in the world wanted to hear Kenyas views on matters affecting the globe.

The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal bloc of industrialized democracies which include (the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom) and meets every year to discuss issues such as global economic governance, international security, and energy policy.

Ethiopia, Tunisia and Nigeria are other African countries invited to the summit alongside Kenya in this year’s summit whose theme is ‘Building the foundations of renewed trust’.

    Kenya is truly on the world map and last month I happened to be in Canada attending an international fora on World Trade which was gracely and officially opened and addressed by the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.In the fora, Kenya as a country in Africa where the international business community can do trade was mentioned thirty times by Speakers who exemplified our country as a hub of peace,progress and good business environment provided by the able and dynamic leadership of the UHURUTO Team.
