Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has cleared the air on his presidential aspirations in the 2022 general elections, days after declaring that he will be defending his Kiambu Governor seat as an independent candidate in the August 8 elections.
In an interview with Citizen TV on Monday night, the controversial governor who recently lost in the Jubilee primary race to Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu, revealed that he currently does not have any plans to vie for the country’s top seat, adding that he was currently focused on his job as the Kiambu governor and his re-election in August.
”I am currently the Governor of Kiambu County, a position I am seeking to defend in the coming election and I currently have no plans to run for Presidency,” said Kabogo.
He however said that since people were calling on him to go for the top seat, he will be considering it at a later stage.
”I have no plans of vying for the seat as things stand now but since many people are already speaking about it and my supporters are urging me to go for it, I have started putting it into consideration. However, that will only have to come after i finish working for Kiambu residents,” he said.
He added, ”I believe I am among the senior leaders in the Central region and the entire nation and i am sure that i would perform well and deliver in whatever office people elected me into,”
Asked to comment on the Jubilee party primaries in which he lost in a landslide to Waititu, Kabogo said that despite raising serious questions over the nominations with the party top officials including the Deputy President William Ruto, nothing was done. He said the polls were shoddy and unfair.
Kabogo, an independent candidate, will be facing off with Ferdinand Waititu again in the August general election.
