Chris Obure has been declared the winner of the Jubilee Party governor ticket for Kisii County. Obure, the current senator of the county, garnered 208,091 votes against his closest opponent Alfred Nyangweso, who only managed 4,782 votes.
The nomination exercise in the County was were held after Nyangweso through his lawyer John Khaminwa moved to court seeking to have the Jubilee gubernatorial nomination repeated over the manner in which they were conducted.
Speaking moments after he was declared the victor, Obure welcomed the poll losers to work with him in Jubilee Party saying they need to work with winners for the sake of the party. “Our aim is to make Kisii a Jubilee stronghold. This can only be possible if we work in unity,” he said.
Obure said that it was clear that he will be the Kisii county boss after the August 8 polls based on the vote tally that clinched him the nomination ticket.
He thanked the Jubilee Party supporters for voting peacefully and turning out in large numbers despite it being a repeat exercise which usually have low turn outs.
He lashed out at the current Kisii county government adding that people are tired of it since it has performed poorly.
Obure will lock horns with incumbent Governor James Ongwae of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Manson Nyamweya of Kenya National Congress, Lumumba Nyaberi of Wiper and Boniface Omboto of Maendeleo Chap Chap in August 8 the General Election.
He ditched ODM a year ago and joined the ruling party citing lack of development agenda in the opposition.
