Muadavid’s party ANC (Amani National Congress) has announced that Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro has defected from ODM to ANC.
ANC Secretary-General Godfrey Osotsi said Ongoro will vie for the Ruaraka MP seat on an ANC ticket, a day after ODM scratched her name from the list of aspirants for the constituency. “She is our member and will vie in Ruaraka,” Osotsi said,
Osotsi also said Ongoro will be officially received into the party on Friday by party leader Musalia Mudavadi.
Ongoro was on Thursday barred from competing against current MP TJ Kajwang in the Ruaraka ODM nomination, citing violence that erupted last month between her supporters and those of Kajwang and in which one person was left dead. She was also fined Sh1 million on Thursday and ordered to issue a public apology after she and her supporters stormed ODM headquarters and caused a scuffle. She was there to demand to be included in the list of ODM aspirants in Ruaraka constituency.
In barring Ongoro from competing in Ruaraka, ODM announced she was free to contest any other seat in the country under ODM. She was not included in the list of aspirants for Ruaraka that ODM submitted to the IEBC on Thursday.
