Kenya’s Ambassador to Germany Stella Mokaya has urged the nation’s youth and graduates to capitalize on the increasing educational and employment opportunities available in Germany.
Her remarks were delivered during a Digital Career Fair organized by Mount Kenya University (MKU), which sought to provide insights into diverse career paths and educational advancements for students and professionals. The ambassador’s call to action is underscored by the strengthening bilateral relationship between Kenya and Germany, which has facilitated access to job markets and educational institutions for qualified Kenyans.
Mokaya highlights sectors in Germany that are particularly promising for Kenyan professionals, including green jobs, healthcare, engineering, information technology, and transport. She stated “There are numerous opportunities in Germany, and I believe that our youth and graduates, particularly those who are qualified and competent in their fields, should seize the opportunity to secure jobs and advance their education,”
The Digital Career Fair engaged a diverse audience, including students, graduates, professionals, and international experts, through expert-led sessions aimed at imparting practical knowledge. Caroline Mwangi, CEO and co-founder of AG-Career Hub in Germany echoed Mokaya’s sentiments and encouraged participants to utilize the robust Kenya-Germany relations to explore career and educational options.
Presentations at the fair included insights from Prof. Dr Christian Lebrenz of the University of Applied Sciences in Koblenz on vocational training, and Dr. Ing. Jörg Franke from Technische Hochschule Nürnberg, who discussed postgraduate study opportunities. Lutho Kote from Fintiba GmbH provided crucial guidance on the visa application process, while Alexander Ritter from Netspice GmbH addressed global remote IT job prospects. Funding specialist Martin shared important information regarding scholarship applications and critical deadlines.
Dr Martin Kimemia Gathiru, Vice-Chancellor of Mount Kigali University in Rwanda, highlighted the essential role of digital platforms in facilitating access to global opportunities, reinforcing the event’s aim of preparing participants for careers in an increasingly interconnected world. The Digital Career Fair served as a vital platform for Kenyan students and professionals to connect with global experts and explore international opportunities across various fields, including education, healthcare, technology, and law.
Through interactive sessions, attendees were able to pose questions and gain actionable insights to further their careers. In a related development, MKU is set to celebrate the graduation of over 7,000 students in an upcoming ceremony to be presided over by the university Chancellor, Prof. John Struthers.
