Regal Retreat: Lavish Kilifi Home That Hosted King Charles III
Kilifi County Villas

During their recent visit to the Kenyan Coast, King Charles III and Queen Camila were graciously hosted at a stunning family residence in Vipingo Ridge, Kilifi County.

The skilled Dutch designer, Erwine Overkamp, designed the villa in 2016. Chosen with great care, the villa’s prime location and exceptional security were key factors. Overkamp recently discussed the royal couple’s brief stay in an interview with Africa News on November 26. He disclosed that their visit to Kenya lasted just a day before departure. The villa’s allure for esteemed guests such as royals and presidents lies in its master bedroom, which is completely bulletproof. This feature guarantees their safety and provides a sense of tranquillity.

The villa boasts a total of five bedrooms. What distinguishes this extraordinary dwelling is its incorporation of climate technology, transforming it into a sustainable haven. Operating solely on solar energy, the 750-square-meter villa aligns perfectly with King Charles III’s unwavering commitment to preserving the environment. This devotion to eco-consciousness is evident not only in the carefully selected interior designs but also in the meticulously chosen artefacts that embody the villa’s climate-centric concept.

King Charles III himself was known to have praised the architecture of Overkamp’s creation, commending both its aesthetic appeal and its commitment to sustainability. This house, powered entirely by solar energy, serves as an example of how luxury and environmental consciousness can harmoniously coexist. Overkamp also highlights the property’s impressive feature of a spacious pool, strategically placed within the layout to offer guests a serene oasis during the sweltering summer season. The residence was purchased by the late Chris Kirubi in 2016, once it was finished.
