Churchgoers Heckle Starehe MP Charles Jaguar, Call Him "Kigeugeu" for Taking Governor Sonko to Court

Starehe MP Charles Njagua alias Jaguar was on Sunday heckled by worshipers at the Redeemed Gospel Church for reportedly taking Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to court.

The first-time MP had accompanied Deputy President William Ruto and other Nairobi County leaders led by Governor Mike Sonko to the church service when the incident happened.

The church services coincided with the beatification of Reverend Felix Kavoi and the ordination of Pastor Anne Ndeti.

Soon after the service ended, a section of the congregation began booing Jaguar and calling him “kigeugeu” (a traitor) over his recent engagement with some Nairobi politicians. “Huyo Kigeugeu, huyo kigeugeu,” some worshippers were heard chanting. Incidentally, one of the Jaguar’s famous song is named “Kigeugeu.”

Jaguar moved to court last week to challenge Governor Sonko’s decision to ban boda boda riders from operating in the Central Business District (CBD) over their involvement in crime. He argued that Sonko’s move was reached at without consultations with stakeholders and that it would curtail the economic rights of many riders.
