US Under Secretary for Trade Gil Kaplan to Lead Delegation of Investors to Kenya

US Under Secretary for International Trade Gil Kaplan is set to lead a delegation of American businesspeople to Kenya next week.

Speaking during her maiden press briefing on Wednesday, State House Deputy Spokesperson Kanze Dena said the aim of the visit by the US team is to deepen investment in the country.

Among those who will accompany Kaplan to Kenya are executives of American corporations including Bechtel, Visa, IBM, Overseas Private Investment Corporation, Acrow Bridge, Amethyst, Citi, and GE.

“The main aim is to strengthen economic partnership and exploring avenues through which they can invest in our economy,” Dena said.

She said talks with the US business leaders will mainly focus on investments under President Kenyatta’s “Big Four” agenda; namely manufacturing, universal healthcare, affordable housing and food security.

“We are keen to ensure that our economy creates employment opportunities for our youth even as our economy grows,” she pointed out.

Dena also confirmed that former US President Barack Obama will be coming to Kenya on July 16th. This will be the first time Obama is visiting Kenya and Africa since he left White House in January 2017.

    • This is about UD-China Trade…
This is about UD-China Trade wars. Case in Point: In this year 2018, US Trade with China has dropped 92%; only this year. So Kaplan’s Mission could be to do same and even more harm to China’s Trade with Kenya (and Africa).

  2. The second scramble of…
The second scramble of Africa is underway and this time, Africa is selling itself out to the highest bidder because it can not do anything for itself despite having the most concentrated group of highly educated individuals who crammed and crammed in class and can not deduce what they ever learnt, what a shame!! Just Kali itatuokoa miaka gani? Manufacturing nope, building of roads, nope despite having so called engineers. Anyone holding a degree ought to be very ashamed of themselves. Bure Kabisa. If only those certificates could be used as tissue paper.

  3. Kenya, and most African…
Kenya, and most African countries will continue being underdeveloped and their natural wealth stolen as long as they take sides with any of the looters. Neither China nor USA is interested in uplifting the living standards of the ordinary mwananchi.

We honestly don’t need foreign investors….Kenyans themselves should be internal investors.

This may sound ridiculous,,,,,,,,,but we can learn a lot from how the apartheid govt down SA was able to grow economically during its apartheid period despite worldwide isolation, economic sanctions and embargo. This can only happen if we avoid the jaundiced eye of “how blacks were segregated and killed by apartheid”.

The reality on the ground is that most of the corruption money currently stolen in Kenya is cleaned by buying property in joburg and cape town………..then we wet our pants running to welcome American/Chinese investors.
