Karua, Kioni Warn Against Ruto-Raila Dialogue

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has recently expressed her scepticism about the new calls for dialogue made by President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Karua emphasizes that for any dialogue to be meaningful, all parties involved must approach it with genuine goodwill and a focus on the best interests of the Kenyan people. The proposed dialogue is set to commence on Monday, July 15, and conclude on Saturday. This multi-sectorial forum aims to foster national unity and seek enduring solutions to Kenya’s pressing issues. President Ruto has highlighted the significance of this event, stating that it will chart a course for the nation’s future.

Raila Odinga has also voiced his support for the forum, viewing it as an opportunity for Kenyan citizens to be heard and for sustainable solutions to be developed. In a move towards fiscal responsibility, all attendees are expected to cover their own costs of participation. This dialogue comes at a crucial time for Kenya as persistent issues such as youth unemployment, police brutality, and economic difficulties continue to affect the populace. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka emphasized the growing importance of youth voices during the signing ceremony of the IEBC Bill.

Musyoka cautions about the increasing influence of Generation Z, urging current leadership and older generations to acknowledge and adapt to the aspirations of young Kenyans. The Wiper leader acknowledges the recent youth protests, noting that they have effectively highlighted numerous critical issues affecting citizens. He praises their approach, stating, “They came in the form of Gen Z but they are Kenyans. In fact, they are carrying the national flags; they have done it better than we did.”

Musyoka also suggests revisiting the Bomas discussions to address these concerns comprehensively. Meanwhile, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has offered his perspective on the participation of Azimio leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka in the signing of the IEBC (Amendment) Bill. Kioni’s cryptic message following the signing ceremony implies that those in power in Kenya are fiercely protective of the status quo. He suggests that the guardians of the Kenyan state employ their authority relentlessly to ensure the system’s survival, even if it means engaging in superficial dialogue to maintain public approval.
