Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor has undergone surgery after injuring his Achilles tendon.
According to the legislator, the injury occurred during a basketball training session on Tuesday morning. Jalang’o fell and tore his Achilles tendon, leading to the surgery. However, he has reassured his supporters that he is now feeling much better. In a social media post, Jalang’o expresses his gratitude to his colleagues and the Lang’ata team for their prayers and support. He accompanied the post with a photo of him indisposed in a hospital gown with his left leg saddled in an Aircast boot.
Kenyans also took to his social media platforms to wish him a speedy recovery. The Achilles tendon is a strong cord that connects the muscles in the calf to the heel bone, and an injury to this tendon can cause significant discomfort in the back of the lower leg. Achilles tendon can tear either partially or completely, according to medical experts. When this happens, there is often a distinct popping sound followed by a sudden, intense pain in the back of the ankle and lower leg, making it difficult to walk properly. While surgery is a common treatment for repairing the rupture, nonsurgical methods can be just as effective for many individuals.
While Achilles tendon injuries are commonly associated with recreational sports, they can occur in anyone. Symptoms include sharp pain, swelling near the heel and a sensation of having been struck in the calf. Additionally, individuals may struggle to walk by pushing off on the injured leg or bending downwards to touch the foot. Reducing the risk of tendon injury involves a blend of exercises that healthcare experts recommend. If there is a suspicion of a torn Achilles tendon, it is recommended to stretch the calf until a noticeable pull is felt.
Last week, Lang’ata MP stated that he would not resign from his parliamentary seat despite calls from his ODM Party. In an interview with TV47, the newly elected legislator defended his meeting with President Ruto and affirmed that he acted within the law. Worth noting is that ODM is cracking down on defectors and voices of dissent, with Jalang’o and other expelled MPs being asked to step down from their positions.
Alongside Jalang’o, Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda and MP Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) were also expelled. However, the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has temporarily halted the ODM party from expelling the three lawmakers.
