I Have Cleared all Counties' Arrears, Says President Ruto

President William Ruto has affirmed that his government is proceeding to a new financial year with no debts to counties.

Speaking at an interdenominational service in Kajiado Central on Sunday, June 25, the President stated that the funds were disbursed at the beginning of the week. He pledged his dedication to the success of devolution and promised that the arrears would be paid off by the end of June.

The National Treasury on Monday dispersed the last tranche of the amount owed to the devolved units. Governors had been complaining about the tardiness of the National Treasury in releasing the funds, which had hindered services in the devolved units. The National Treasury has extended the deadline for absorption of the monies to July 15 from June 30.

Dr Ruto was flanked by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, area governor Joseph Ole Lenkum, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and a host of local leaders. Mr Cheruiyot declared that President William Ruto will have no excuse to give Kenyans after the parliament passed the Finance Bill. He noted that it is up to the President to prove wrong the opposition faction that has since doubted his political plans.

“The ball is now in your court. Now deliver to Kenyans. You now cannot tell Kenyans you do not have this or that. MPs have given you strength. They have given you the opportunity to serve Kenyans,” he stated.
