A detective involved in the pursuit of two kidnappers has divulged that the abductors had initiated ransom talks with the family of a media figure after abducting her daughter along with her friend.
The two kidnappers, who police believe are part of a wider criminal network, Initially demanded Sh 1 million for the release of the two ladies, but they later reduced the amount to Sh 500,000, with each of the hostages’ families paying Sh250,000. On Monday, sleuths from Nairobi, with the help of their counterparts from the Thika Police Station in Kiambu, declared a victory in the kidnapping episode involving the daughter of the well-known media figure, Ms Ciku Muiruri, and her friend. Ms Erica Njeri, Ms Muiruri’s daughter, and her friend Shanice Agose were abducted a week ago in Nairobi’s Westlands area after boarding a taxi.
“We know that prayer can move mountains. Stop wars. Please pray for my daughter Erica Njeri and her friend Shanice Agose as part of your intentions. Also, and this is very important, pray for those who took them, that their souls will not be lost,” Ciku Muiruri wrote on her social media after the two friends went missing.
The police report on Monday indicated that the two had been rescued from their captors in Mangu, Gatukuyu area, Gatundu North. The two abductors, Timothy Kiragu and Samuel Kipkurui Ng’ang’a had been arrested in Ngoingwa before and led the police to a rented room where the hostages were held.
After a short investigation, Erica Njeri’s phone was found covered in foil. The victims were rescued in good health but visibly weak and terrified.
