Starehe MP Charles Njagua, alias Jaguar, has dismissed reports that he has dropped his re-election bid ahead of the August 9th elections.
Jaguar, who was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket in 2017, is seeking to defend the seat under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Reports emerged on Wednesday that the musician-cum-politician had shelved his bid in favor of East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Simon Mbugua, who is also eyeing the Starehe MP seat on a UDA ticket.
The reports alleged that Deputy President William Ruto, who is the UDA presidential candidate, persuaded Jaguar to step down for Mbugua.
“As the sitting MP of Starehe Constituency I would like to inform my constituents that I have not stepped down for any aspirant and I have not held any discussions with the Deputy President in regards to this matter,” Jaguar said in a statement posted on Facebook.
He affirmed that he will not step down for any other candidate, adding that he is ready for the UDA party primaries slated for April 14th.
“I was elected by the people of Starehe and I have the mandate to represent them. I will not be party to any negotiations. My opponent agreed to negotiations in his former place. Starehe mambo ni tofauti. Tupatane kwa debe April 14,” Jaguar added.
