Hussein Marjan Appointed as IEBC CEO

Marjan Hussein Marjan has been appointed as the new CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Marjan, who has been serving in the position in an acting capacity, beat four other candidates who were shortlisted for the post from a list of 511 applicants. They include Nancy Kariuki Wanjiku, Dr. Joel Mabonga, Zephaniah Aura Okeyo, and Dr. George Kamau Michugu.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati says Marjan was found to be the most suitable candidate following the interviews carried out on March 8th.

He becomes the first non-lawyer to hold the position that fell vacant following the sacking of former IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba in 2018.

Marjan holds an MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the same institution.

He is also a Certified Accountant (CPA-K), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA), Certified Quality Assessor (CQA), and is also a practicing Member of ICPAK in good standing.

The new IEBC CEO is also a member of the Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA) as well as a member of the Institute Internal Auditor (IIA).

    IEBC AND ELECTION CANDIDATES 2022:

The IEBC should work together with the director of Public Prosecution, and the director of criminal investigation to clear candidates who wish to run for an elective public service before the forthcoming election 2022.

The basic standard for any potential candidate should be based on Chapter 6 of our New Constitution. This is paramount for the future of Kenya where we don’t have to hear that a former impeached governor was barred from visiting the USA based on his past skeletons rattling in his closet.
