Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is set to pay its employees an extra one-month salary as a reward for surpassing the 2020/21 financial year targets.
KRA Commissioner-General Githii Mburu in an internal memo said the bonus payment equivalent to one month’s salary was approved by the authority’s board in consultation with the National Treasury.
The move is aimed at rewarding the more than 14,000 KRA members of staff after the tax agency exceeded the Sh1.6 trillion revenue target for the financial year under review. The taxman had set a collection target of Sh1.652 trillion but surpassed it by Sh16.81 billion.
“This improved performance was achieved in the backdrop of a difficult economic environment caused by the negative impacts of the ongoing pandemic. In line with our policy and practice of recognizing and rewarding achievement of performance targets, the board has received approval from the National Treasury to pay a performance bonus equivalent to one month’s basic salary to all staff,” said Mburu in the notice.
Mburu said the bonus payment will act as a motivation for KRA employees to achieve the Sh1.8 trillion revenue target for the 2021/22 fiscal year.
The commissioner-general is the highest-paid KRA official, pocketing between Sh1.2 million to Ksh.2 million per month while other commissioners earn between Sh700,000 to Sh1.2 million each per month.

That exta cash should help those kids ravaging on streets. That money can create other jobs instead of enriching those with jobs already. The damn KRA staff are the ones who throttle the flow.. they are corrupt and make life hard for taxpayers driving taxpayers to a point they cannot do business..they cannot earn, they cannot eat or live….and hence the taxpayer has to chota/toa kitu kidogo….and it now becomes a cycle. So, give the break to the taxpayer, not the collector.
