Kenya Private Sector Alliance Asks Uhuru to Increase Curfew Hours to Contain New COVID-19 Wave

The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) has raised alarm over the rising number of COVID-19 infections and fatalities in the country.

The body now wants President Kenyatta to impose tougher measures to contain the new wave of COVID-19 in the next three weeks.

“Due to the urgent need to reverse this worrying upward trajectory in new Covid-19 cases, KEPSA is asking the government to institute additional stringent measures to be implemented over the next 2-3 weeks, after which they can be reviewed for impact,” KEPSA CEO Carole Karuga said in a press release on Thursday.

The alliance has asked President Kenyatta and the government to increase curfew hours from 10 pm-4 am to 9 pm-4 am.

“Countrywide curfew to start at 9 pm till 4 am for the next 3 weeks. Companies operating night shifts, night deliveries, and other essential services should be exempted.”

Further, KEPSA wants the government to limit the number of people attending funerals and other social gatherings in the next three weeks to 15.

“Restrict all social gatherings including in homes for the next 3 weeks. The social gatherings include ceremonies to mark IDD and Easter celebrations, weddings,” the lobby added.

The lobby further urged political and church leaders to take the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to boost public confidence in the jab.

“The private sector also wishes to state categorically and without hesitation its support for the ongoing vaccination campaign. We must not only vaccinate our people; we must also intensify this campaign to ensure all Kenyans who want to be vaccinated are vaccinated by July 31st, 2021,” Karuga said.

  1. Is President Uhuru not…
Is President Uhuru not seeing that Kenya is in danger? He should be proactive and act to save lives. it should have happened last week. the people we are losing now would have been saved. The new variant is more aggressive and nothing will stop it if we don’t act fast.

To Wakenya wenzangu, you are responsible for your safety. Uhuru cannot force you to take care of yourself and family. Wear a mask at all times outside your home and sanitize, sanitize, sanitize. physically distance from everyone, including a family member who is working outside the home. Ask to work from home, if possible.

Schools have to close because children are carriers from parents to other kids, and from kids to parents. They may not get sick but they are passing it to teachers, parents and baby seaters. When they come home, parents are hugging them while they are in uniforms and have not been thoroughly washed with deltol.

We will get through this, but we need to take responsibility and save ourselves.
