Court Orders Imprisoned Quack Doctor Mugo wa Wairimu be Taken to Hospital

A Nairobi court has directed that quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu be taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.

Mugo appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi of Milimani law courts on Wednesday for the hearing of a case in which he is charged with rape.

The order was issued after he told the court that authorities at Ruiru Prisons, where he is serving his sentence, declined his requests for medical attention.

Mugo was in October last year sentenced to 11 years in jail or pay a Sh1.4 million fine after he was found guilty of unlawfully operating an unregistered pharmacy, operating a medical lab without registration and license, operating a medical clinic without registration and license, and practicing as an unregistered and unlicensed person.

Senior Resident Magistrate Martha Nanzushi ruled that the prosecution proved its case against Mugo.

Mugo was arrested by flying squad officers in Gachie area, Kiambu County in November 2018 after evading arrest for several weeks by continuously swapping SIM cards.

He was first arrested in 2015 after a video showing him raping a sedated female patient at his clinic in Githurai was exposed by a local TV station. 

The video showed a woman lying on a doctor’s examination table and a man (believed to be Mugo) undressing before climbing onto the table and raping the patient.
