Kenya Confirms 15 More Covid-19 Cases, Tally Hits 296

15 more people have tested positive for coronavirus in Kenya, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 296.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr. Mercy Mwangangi in a media briefing on Tuesday said the 15 cases are from 545 samples tested in the past 24 hours.

Out of the 15 new patients, 11 are Kenyan nationals while four are foreigners. Seven of the 15 cases are from Mombasa County, six from Nairobi while Mandera recorded two.

Eight patients are female and seven and are male—all aged between 19 and 75 years old. All the 15 cases are as a result of local transmission since none of them have a recent history of travel.

Six of the 15 cases were drawn from quarantine facilities while the rest were picked by the Ministry of Health’s surveillance team.

At the same time, Dr. Mwangangi announced that five additional patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus. This raises the number of Covid-19 recoveries in Kenya to 74. 14 patients have succumbed to the virus in the country.

A total of 14,417 samples have been tested since Kenya confirmed its first case of Covid-19.

2,851 contacts have since been identified with 2,121 tested and discharged, while 730 are still being monitored.
