A Kenyan court has convicted a British national accused of possessing explosive-making materials.
Jermaine Grant was charged alongside his wife Warda Breik and Frank Ngala after he was arrested at an apartment in Kisauni, Mombasa in 2011.
The house is said to be owned by one of the most wanted terror suspects Samantha Lewthwaite alias “White Widow.”
Grant had been charged with three counts including conspiracy to manufacture explosives with the aim of causing mass destruction.
In a ruling on Wednesday, a Mombasa court said the prosecution proved that the accused resided in the house where bomb-making materials were recovered.
The magistrate also ruled that evidence presented in court linked the chemicals to Mr. Grant.
Grant’s wife, Warda Breik Islam, a Kenyan national, was acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence. She was accused of being Grant’s accomplice.
The third suspect was also freed after the court found that he had been wrongfully accused.
Grant will be sentenced on May 9th, 2019.
Grant is already serving a nine-year jail term for forging immigration documents in a bid to obtain an identification card.
He is suspected to be part of an Al Shaabab-linked group that staged multiple attacks in Kenya over Christmas in 2011.
That is what he deserves.
