Trump Pick for US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter Gets Senate Committee's Nod

The United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee has endorsed Kyle McCarter. President Donald Trump’s nominee for American ambassador to Kenya.

McCarter has moved closer to securing the prestigious position after the US Senate panel endorsed his nomination by a 12-9 vote on Thursday.

All Republican members of the committee voted in favor of Trump’s pick while nine of the 10 Democrats voted to shoot down his nomination.

McCarter’s name will now be tabled before the full House and members are expected to vote to confirm his nomination within the next two weeks.

“I’m pleased it’s moving forward,” McCarter said following the vote on Thursday. “It’s a very important post, and I am honored to have been nominated by the president for it.”

Senator Chris Coons, who previously worked as a volunteer in Kenya and studied at the University of Nairobi, was the only Democrat who voted in favor of the nominee.

“I have great admiration for Senator Coons. I view his support as a vote of confidence,” says McCarter.

If members of the Senate approve his nomination, McCarter will succeed Ambassador Robert Godec who has held the position since 2012.

Balozi Kyle McCarter: Karibu nyumbani.
