Migori Governor Okoth Obado has been released on a bail of Sh5 million and two sureties of similar amount after staying behind bars for almost a month.
High Court Justice Jessie Lessit also issued tough conditions to Obado including staying away from the scene where Rongo University student Sharon Otieno was murdered.
“The accused shall not go anywhere within 20km of Homa Bay-Migori boundary and the court has the liberty to cancel your bail at any time,” says the Judge.
Judge Lessit has also directed the embattled governor to appear in all court sessions failure to which his bail will be revoked. Obado has further been prohibited from communicating with parents, siblings or any close relative of Ms Otieno.
“The accused will refrain from contacting or intimidating whether directly or by proxy witnesses in this case,” she adds.
The second-term Governor is also required not to discuss the case in any political meeting or private gathering.
Obado was charged with the murder of the 26-year-old student and her seven-month-old unborn baby on September 24th but pleaded not guilty to the allegations. The Prosecution says it will be calling 30 witnesses to testify against the Governor.
The court has also directed Obado to deposit his passports in court and be reporting to the deputy registrar once a month. His co-accused Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero have however been denied bail.
The pre-trial hearing has been set for February 14th, 2019 while the hearing will run from May 6th to 17th, 2019.
This was one of most heinous…
This was one of most heinous crime and this criminal should have remained in custody until the court date. Now he will be out there undermining the case buy buying off the justice system. Keep an eye on him and his actions. I hope he get the same treatment as he ordered on that young mother and her unborn child.
Of course they released him…
Of course they released him. Anyone surprised? Very pathetic and sad state of affairs. Justice should be meted out by the mass since the elite are untouchable in the judicial system.
