Iranian Passenger Loses Sh750,000 after Clearance at JKIA

An Iranian national claims that he lost Sh750,000 from his bag at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

30-year-old Mehrah Hassan told police that he arrived at the Nairobi airport from Qatar on Wednesday and was carrying US$7,500 in his bag. He, however, said he could not find the cash completing clearance with Immigration officers at JKIA.

“He was profiled and cleared by Immigration officers. He proceeded to the forex bureau to change the money. But when he opened the bag he found a bundle amounting to US$ 100 (Sh 1,000),” police said.

It added: “Scene was visited, no arrest or recovery was made.”

The incident comes amid reports of customers complaining of mistreatment by JKIA officials and being forced into queues for their bags to be checked. Passengers have also reportedly complained of the staff being rude and unfriendly while conducting the search.

I have seen with my own eyes custom officials fish out of a mzungu’s suitcase valuables, took them and told mzungu to proceed. This sort of blatant thievery is what the youths cited as reasons they want to live abroad.Meaning USA ,Europe,Australia…
Heads should be on the chopping block over this, otherwise big shame on custom officials

Yep, you bet! Not only Kenyans, but Africans in general are more inclined to steal from others. Along with a penchant for being lazier in general (compared to other races), it’s one of those hard facts to swallow. And it’s a major major reason for all the economic ills bedeviling the continent

@ Mlachake.I believe that you and I have touched on this sensitive issue before. I had asked you if Wafrika have Inferior brains or something to that effect…
Anyway,Idont know what it is but time to blame mzungu is long gone. How come in the whole continent of africa we do not have one country that could be called First World? If we were at par with Thailand, Singapore and S.Korea when we garnered independence, why are those countries leaving us behind.Dont we want to be as good as the so called first world? In other words drive better cars, health care for all, unemployment of4%, long life…
Blessed with abundance of natural resources, and yet we wallow in poverty. If we indeed recognize what it good for us,then why dont we go for it?Yes someone might point out India ,or some other country is not better. But I say India is not the model for progress.Lets aim high, unless we are unable to…
By the way, I read somewhere that Japan resisted colonization by sticking together, and shunning the foreign influence. They even killed those who were converted to Christianity.

Ukweli wa mambo, and it really pains, is that generally we are intellectually inferior. Tukubali tu coz bila kukubali we can’t move forward or improve ourselves! The whole idea of stealing from public coffers to enrich oneself as orphans, widows, unemployed youth wallowing in poverty, hospitals sans medicines etc struggle speaks volumes about what exists between our ears. They call it primitive accumulation coz it’s indeed primitive & backward. There’s something very wrong with the black man everywhere

Yes, Ben, Kenyans DNA and bloodwork systems, are full of anything from thieve(ry), con artist, con crafters, or in simple terms, Kenyans look what they can steal from you above what you are paying them. You can count how many rich Kenyans have earned their wealth using your left palm. At the airport, custom officers want to know where you coming from. Mention India, know for medical tourism, Australia, Switzerland, Russia, and they will let you go. Mention USA, China, Canada, Dubai, ooh boy, they ransack your luggage with owls eyes.

I had to check in my carryon bag & the fact that I didn’t have any lock made me freak out big time. So when I pointed this out in Dallas they gave me a tag and somehow and still wonder to this day it made it in safely. This is haibu ndogo giving Kenya a bad name. And then the immigration officer asked what I “letea them for Christmas “ and the guy by the conveyor wanted “Keith kidogo”. Really.
