A section of Jubilee Members of Parliament drawn from the Rift Valley region have threatened to impeach National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale.
The parliamentarians expressed their anger over the party’s decision to de-whip four MPs from the region, who contested against President Kenyatta’s preferred nominees to House committees.
In a meeting at the Parliament buildings convened by Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny and attended by Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Silas Tiren (Moiben), Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Kangogo Bowen of Marakwet West, among others, the leaders resolved that, should the party effect the dewhipping, they will table a motion to impeach National Assembly leader Aden Duale.
“Rift Valley members are concerned because of the misunderstanding arising following election of committee chairpersons and their vice chairpersons,” Kutuny said.
“It was important for the MPs to meet and seek a consensus on how the matters should be resolved.”
On Wednesday, Majority Whip Benjamin Washiali recalled Tiren, Keter, Kangogo and Alex Kosgey of Emgwen were from committees. Keter and Tiren were elected chairpersons of the Labour and Social Welfare and Agriculture committees, respectively against President Uhuru preferred nominees Ali Wario of Bura and Sophia Abdi of Ijara.
Kosgey unsuccessfully contested against Kieni MP Kanini Kega, for chairman of the Committee on Trade.
