Raila Reacts to Mass Failure of Candidates in 2017 KCSE Exams

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga has raised concerns over the mass failure of candidates in 2017 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

In a statement to the press released on Thursday, the opposition chief called for creation of a taskforce to probe the cause of the terrifying results of this year’s form four exams.

“Close to 90 per cent of the KCSE candidates have failed. This is very worrying,” he said.

Results announced on Wednesday by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i show that a mere 70,073 (11 percent) out of the 611,952 candidates who sat for the exam met the minimum university entry requirement of mean grade C+.

Odinga further said that the Ministry of Education must answer the questions raised by parents and teachers’ unions on the mass failure.

“As the country commits resources to free learning and scales up enrolment, the whole purpose and value for money is lost when close to 90 per cent of those students eventually fail,” Odinga said.

Your goons burnt a school and you promised that you will personally ensure Iran rebuilt., you lied. You caused and raised havoc with your goons and now pretend that you task force. Raila just go sleep somewhere you are detriment to our country. You offer no solutions and like uhuru said opposition has failed to keep governments in check.just retire old man your time was up 1997.

Omosh you sound like those “Mass Failures” of the Moi and Professor Eshiwani Era. And I mean those Mass Failures who (Moi and Eshiwani In-Cahooots have Free Certificates) and Ended Up in some Universities in Kenya and in Washington DC, New York, and Massachusetts (to mention Just a Few) only to FAIL Even More MISERABLY (with their FAKE Grades and Certicates).

What do we expect when we subject these kids to down rodent politics. Politics of distraction, anger, hatred and starvation. Yet today we seem to pretend to wonder what made our kids to fail.

To be Sincere: Technology, Automation (or Automarking) was the Mother of Accuracy, Speed, and Anti-KNEC Corruption. No HUMAN Errror; No NYAYO Era (of Manipulating EXAM Results).

  3. This man should be admitted…
This man should be admitted to a mental institution, Is he the same who went on the media saying the students wont die if they don’t seat for there exams. Mr Odinga or whatever you call yourself for the past 5-6 years schools have been known to buy exams hence the over-roll performance before Matiangi took over was an A ( even in Japan or the US the overall has never been an A and this are the same students after admitted to our university they end up dropping out since they cant comprehend the varsity education. Sasa you want to tell us parents should continue to buy exams for their kids so they can lie to themselves and to everyone that there so smart and there not.

  4. Raila! I respe t you and I…
Raila! I respe t you and I do kindly ask you to “Tread Carefully on this ONE.” I say this because I believe Teachers have NOT been ‘Teaching’; they have been ‘Cheating’ since Time Immemorial. So my point is: The Difference between TEACHING and CHEATING is Massive FAILURE (when Reality Strikes). And the Country is now feeling the STROKE.

  5. Raila, Not making the…
Raila, Not making the University grade of C+ does not mean that they are failures. Stop demoralizing those Kids. There are colleges and other institutions that admit such students. Whereas I do agree with you that the trend is worrying, your goons and election gimmicks interfered with the normal order of exams taking for these students and you still wanted another 90 days to interfere with their calendar.

The uncertainty caused by those that never accepted the verdict of the citizens is to blame.

  7. Rubbish baba did not angusha…
Rubbish baba did not angusha the students. The fact that some of this schools had been cheating all along is now coming to light. Some parents are acting shocked .If your kid is a dummy placing them in a national school does not make them clever nor does the school guarantee that your kid will pass. Drain the swamp and then proceed to these sham universities that have cropped up every where.Quality of education matters more than quantity. Now this shady universities will be forced to close or lower their admission grade.Smart move to keep them out of business. Some students who scored an E have even formed a group. That is the level of acceptance and settling for second best that the Kenyan education has been reduced to.All those who did not score a C should be absorbed in polytechnics and other institutions geared towards training them to be self employed . Not everyone was meant to go to university and those who get there and cannot hack it end up cheating and frustrating lecturers when they cannot grasp basic concepts. However because they did not go to university does not mean their world should end.
