What factors determine the outcome of a visa application at the US Embassy in Nairobi? Are the visa officers reviewing the applicant’s documents before the interview date? Is their decision predetermined?
Many applicants have been grappling with these inquiries. A significant number have experienced a sense of being refused US visas without adequate clarification, despite fulfilling all the necessary criteria, including having strong ties to their home country, steady employment with satisfactory income, and thriving enterprises. Therefore, what exactly shapes the visa officer’s decision? We have compiled some perspectives from Kenyans who have experienced the US visa application procedure, shared within the widely followed travel community Wanderlust Diaries, curated by Dr. Amakove Wala.
One Kenyan had shared his experience. “I have just been denied a US visa, the interviewer didn’t give me even 2 minutes. Just two questions and I was denied. She didn’t look even at my documents despite the fact I offered to show her my bank statement. All my documents were in order, I had a genuine invitation letter and a proper employment letter, my bank balance was good and in all honesty, I had no intention of overstaying in the US. I am just devastated.”
In response, Kenyans have shared their views. Wangui expresses frustration at the predetermined verdicts, recounting how she was denied a visa without being asked any questions. Despite having all the necessary documents, including an invitation letter and bank statements, she was still rejected. She recalls her vow to never reapply and her distaste for the area where the consulate is located.
Martha suggests that if visas are denied, the application fees should be refunded as this is a profitable business for the consulate. Kenia Esther, who helps with visa applications, has also offered her perspective, stating that the outcome often depends on the mood of the consular officers.
According to Kenia, luck and travel history are the main factors that help. She disputes the notion that decisions are predetermined, stating that visa officers at the embassy often have limited time to review the documents.
“It’s actually about moods. And in that embassy they exercise it a lot, because they know there’s nothing we can do about it. Kwanza women with PMS, don’t we do the same to clients some days? Hiyo visa ni luck na travel history husaidia mostly,” she says.
The most important thing to…
The most important thing to remember is that if you’re African, you’re perceived to be an intending immigrant and those consulars are trained at almost the CIA level to detect deceitful applicants though they do indeed get it wrong many many times.
why then do they keep our…
why then do they keep our money?
Its all about the money…
Its all about the money….dummy
When you scratch off a…
When you scratch off a lottery ticket and don’t win, do you get a refund. Pata potea
Kenyans are being dishonest…
Kenyans are being dishonest here:
– Many Kenyans do not read instructions and lie a lot. I have met many who claimed they did not know why they were denied, yet it was clearly stated in the sheet they were given. Kenyans also forget that these IOs review your whole file to include social media and at times phone records. You come go with your fake story, while they know you have been planning with your boyfriend in Iowa how you will transfer. Lastly, IOs are trained in human intelligence. They will detect your lies a mile away. I have never had an immigration denial and have never hired a lawyer.
They keep the money because…
They keep the money because they clearly state that those funds are non-refundable. They are aware that the US is a favorite migrant destination-have you seen migrants forming caravans to go to China or Russia? You don’t have to apply if you don’t want to. Citizenship application fees are similarly non-refundable. Seneca is right, people lie a lot. Like her, when I did my application years ago, it was a breeze- waiting in the waiting room took longer than the interview.
Remember too… when quotas…
Remember too… when quotas are met, wengine wote ni “denied”.
Usa is one of the most…
Usa is one of the most corrupt countries in the world mainly on their embassies. That embassy in gigiri rumours were going that it was build by Kenyans monies wenye wameenda kuask for visas then denied. They need to b forced to b returning 60% of the monies back if ur denied the visa period??But as I always say sisi nyeuthi wr stupid our leaders cannot do so??Other day Trump called all African presidents shit followed by Puttni our leaders didn’t do any shit about it.They could have recalled all the usa abasandors back to the usa until apology is given but again we suck their bam n we cannot do any shit so let’s remain stupid
I agree with what Seneca has…
I agree with what Seneca has said. Many visa denied Kenyans lie alot in their applications and they do not follow the instructions and requirements as per app.
Case point a reknown kenyan Dj applied for a visitor visa to the USA and lied in his interview that he was going to visit a friend in USA , but the guy has other plans he had Dj Gig’s planned all over the USA. Infact at the time the guy had several posts on all his social media platforms.
Your guess is as good as mine what the outcome of his application was ….
