NASA Reveals Plans to Push for Constitutional Referendum

National Super Alliance (NASA) has revealed plans to call for referendum in a bid to push for electoral justice.

Speaking during a funeral in Vihiga county on Saturday, Nasa principal Musalia Mudavadi said the referendum will ensure necessary amendments to the Constitution to ensure electoral justice is attained.

“We will soon call for [a] referendum where we will seek to ensure that people’s power is felt. Jubilee intends to use its numerical strength in Parliament and this is what we want to tame,” Mudavadi said.

The Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader maintained that Nasa will not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta as a duly and legitimately elected President.

“We do not recognize the elections of August 8 and October 26. We want a new constitutional arrangement, electoral justice and respect for every vote cast,” he said at Sabatia Primary School in Vihiga County during the burial of Mrs Mary Muhonja.

Vihiga Senator George Khaniri chided at those calling for peace at the expense of justice, stating that justice is a requisite for peace. “People call for peace and stability but forget the need for justice. Without justice, there is no peace,” he said.

The senator defended the establishment of People’s Assembly by Nasa, saying that it is for the good of Kenyans.

“We are not doing this for Raila Odinga but the future generations. Perennial rigging of elections is disenfranchising other potential leaders from ascending to the presidency,” the lawmaker said.

Mudavadi, use of numerical strength is how democracy works. Remember Obama’s affordable health care law, not a single republican voted for that law but democrats had a straight majority- it’s the law of the land today. People’s assembly, we already have that, the national assembly- Parliament. As for dialogue-that’s the debate in parliament by people’s representatives. You cannot create democracy by killing democracy, You’re going in circles.

These dudes lie to their constituents during the funerals all the time. During campaign they were busy bullshiting all over the country, fighting IEBC and all that crap. They can’t find a majority in Parliament to push their agenda. They will need to shut their mouths for the next five years.

@Sokora .. i agree they cant win but another election will crash this country. Uhuru should use all state machinery to ensure the next election takes place after 5 yrs

Now, this is the way to go….I actually think we need a position in government for the leader of official opposition but not necessarily for one Raila Amolo Odinga. That person cannot override the decisions of the executive. More like one who advocates for the minority and shines a light on misuse of public resources. Otherwise, it’s going to be the same cycle of violence every five years.

what we might need is to allow losers in the election to be nominated by their parties as MPS .It is good to have a strong opposition within the chamber than outside. the last 5 years we did not experience opposition . everyone was agreeing on increasing their salaries being paid 6 months after election day. it was a 5 years of draining Kenya tax payers economy but opposition leader prime minster . It is unheard of it does not exists in this universe

After trail of trial and errors, it is evident that JP numerical strength has been the thorny issue of nasa all along. So after the tyranny of numbers had its day, tyranny of lies and innuendos had to be crafted. Looking at the bottlenecks that the new constitution has created, it would be a welcome move to have a referendum where once again the tyranny of numbers will prevail-if it is a one-man-one-vote system.
