Supreme Court Rejects Presidential Petition by Juma Kenyatta Awori

The Supreme Court on Friday rejected a Presidential petition filled by one petitioner, after it failed to meet the threshold for admission by the Court.

Juma Kenyatta-Awori Marie arrived at the highest court in the land seeking to file a petition to challenge the August 8th presidential contest, in which President Uhuru was announced the winner by the electoral commission IEBC.

The Deputy Registrar at Supreme Court Daniel Ole Keiwua said that Juma Kenyatta’s document had been rejected because it raised bill of rights concerns and did not directly challenge the outcome of the presidential petition.

“The petition is to deal with a question as to the validity of Presidential election. The document before me does not articulate that as an issue. It appears to seek for declaration of certain fundamental rights, a jurisdiction of the High Court,” Keiwua stated stated.

Marie’s document raised issues relates to the rights and freedoms of persons suspected to be criminally insane, entrapment of a president, treason and conspiracy to commit treason.

Marie listed Wafula Chebukati, Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta and Babu Owino among the respondents, but Ole Keiwua said it was also rejected for lacking the support of an affidavit.

Opposition coalition National Super Alliance successfully filed the presidential petition at the Supreme Court, an hour to the Friday midnight deadline.

The Raila-led outfit said it submitted 25,000 pages of evidence, showing massive anomalies in the August 8th polls.
