A newly released poll by IPSOS Synovate shows that if elections were held today, President Uhuru Kenyatta would edge his closest rival National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga, but a run off would be inevitable.
The new survey indicates that Uhuru’s popularity has dropped to 47 percent of the total votes cast, while former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has risen to 43 percent. 61 percent of those interviewed said that feel the country is heading in the wrong direction while 27 percent believe that Kenya is on the right path.
However, despite the negative feeling, 53 percent of Kenyans were satisfied with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s performance in government while 41 percent disapproved.
The survey was carried out from July 3rd to 12th 2,209 people being interviewed.
IPSOS head Tom Wolf however, noted that if the race is narrowed down between Uhuru and Raila, Uhuru would win the election in round one with 52 percent to Raila’s 48 percent.
The poll further shows that 40 percent of Kenyans have confidence in President Uhuru Kenyatta, while 39 percent trust Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
On the running mates, 33 percent said they have confidence in the Deputy President William Ruto, while those who trust Kalonzo Musyoka were 34 percent.
A poll by the same company last month placed President Uhuru Kenyatta at 49 percent popularity, while Raila Odinga had 42 percent rating.

The jubilee political machine should ensure that the turnout is going to be great.Jubilee is the right party for the country. UHURU is the right leader for the country.
KIMani. The following is…
KIMani. The following is some Food for Thought for you about Uhuru (your Right Leader):
KIKUYUS AND RAILA
By Wairimu Mbuthia
“I voted for the first time in 2013. My decision to vote for Jubilee was largely based of their promise to transform Kenya, as clearly captured in their 2013 manifesto: create 1 million jobs annually, provide free Wi-Fi spots across the country, lower unemployment, grow the economy by double digits, unite our nation, improve our schools, provide better working conditions for our policemen, improve our security, fight corruption, among many things.
Also being a Kikuyu, I bought into the Jubilee’s narrative that the PM, Kimundu as President Uhuru likes to call him, was using ICC to eliminate competition for the presidential elections after Uhuru told us that Raila forced Kibaki to fire him from the ministry of finance. It was therefore an easy decision on who to vote for. I voted for Jubilee.
It’s been over 4 years since then. I don’t regret voting for Uhuru then because I believe that my vote contributed to the end of his cases at the ICC.
I am sad and disappointed though, that after the end of his cases, President Kenyatta has never done anything to improve the lives of people around me.
President Uhuru has been to my town about 5 times. On those occasions, all he keeps telling us is how Raila is bad. Since I had no much information about Raila, I went out to seek information on my own.
I found out that Raila stood by SK Macharia when Moi was out to close his TV and Radio network; I found out that Raila stood with Kuguru when the government tried to close his businesses; I found out that Raila defended Master Mind tobacco when the government was fighting it; I found out Raila intervened in UK to have them lift the Miraa ban. All these businesses are owned by Kikuyus. If Raila didn’t like Kikuyus, why would he fight for them?
On politics, I found out Raila said Kibaki tosha, airlifted him to London and paid his hospital admission fees. He campaigned for him until they won the elections of 2002. He has nominated and appointed numerous Kikuyus, who later abandoned him.
Based on my research, I begun to question the motivation behind President Uhuru Kenyatta demonizing Raila.
President Uhuru has had the opportunity to improve our lives; tackle corruption; create jobs, improve the working conditions of our policemen; improve our security situation; tackle unemployment; tackle rising inflation; but he did not. The best way the president would have made Raila irrelevant was by fulfilling his election promises, but he hasn’t.
I know the president and his surrogates will return here and urge me to defend Uthamaki as a Kikuyu.
But I like the president to know that I, my relatives, or my neighbors have not benefited directly or indirectly from his government: we buy goods at the same price point our brothers from Nyanza does; we suffer the same effects of higher inflation.
As a Kikuyu, I will be voting Jubilee out. And I know many Kikuyus who will. Our voting decision is dictated by our own economic situation, which is different from those that have directly benefited from the corruption of this government.

@Guest1: Back your argument…
@Guest1: Back your argument with statistics and not euphoria. Statistics don’t support a RAILA win. Do the math – region by region and the answer will be clear. Also, look at the rhetoric coming from NASA on a daily basis; rigging, IEBC, dead people, nyakua-ring white peoples properties, etc. Remember it is all about 50% plus 1.
We don’t need your…
We don’t need your propagandas either. Your vote your choice keep it for yourself.
The chickens have come home…
The chickens have come home to roost. Uhuru and Ruto time to pack up.This is a good thing we do not need any of Biwots`s offspring in Statehouse. Ruto is a nephew of Biwott. Dennis itumbi time to take your stupid memes and lousy tweets back to Meru. The tribal politician from Muranga known for spewing hate had better not show his face after August 8th when his master is defeated. And finally as I have said before the first order of business when NASA gets to power is to deposit Waiguru in Kamiti or any other prison in Kenya. Please also deal with the nurses they may not be doctors but they provide necessary care and no one enjoys being sick.They too have families to feed
@Guest1.Kenyans know that…
@Guest1.Kenyans know that Peace is a very fragile commodity.It cannot be trusted with Raila and his core supporters.Uhuru is the right leader for Kenya.
your research was very…
your research was very sharrow.gather more information about him please
I say no to a murderer…
I say no to a murderer,inciter,lord of poverty and a political conman and prostitute.He does not have to be in State House to change Kenya because he can do it from the opposition benches and after all,that is what he is good at.Say No with me to my uncle Ojinga and join me in K.A.R.A.O – Kenyans Against Raila Amolo Ojinga.
Also remember – the monkeys in NASWA are the same corrupt,conniving,lying and agendaless who have no solutions to our problems.The only thing that has changed this time round for these monkeys is the forest.
That is why we are saying UHURUTO TANO TENA.Period,like it or hate it.
@Guest1, as usual you are…
@Guest1, as usual you are naively quoting a one-sided article which narrates all positive things Raila has said or done (for the Kikuyus), but which intentionally omits heinous atrocities instigated by this self-serving evil man against all people of Kenya. Raila’s well documented and self admission involvement in the 1982 attempted coup, plus his involvement in the 2007/08 post-election violence, caused senseless bloodshed in our country which are still fresh in our minds. Surely, Guest 1 and Ms. Mbugua don’t by any stretch of imagination imply that Raila standing by Macharia, Kuguru and Kibaki were morally and ethically more important to our country than the bloodshed and atrocities he caused in 1982 and again in 2007/08. Everyone throughout every nook and corner of our country was affected by the consequences of this greedy mad man’s evil actions. Whether or not he has helped Kikuyu friends is a mute point. The only thing that matters is, what has he done to move our country forward in peace and prosperity? To me, the loss of a single soul due to his self-centered greedy actions to achieve the presidency by hook or crook, disqualifies him as a credible leader to occupy the highest office in our country. He has not repented for heinous atrocities and mayhem he caused in 1982 and 2007/08. Till then, he is NOT fit to be the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Kenya. Ms. Mbugua, Githongo, Kiaai and other Kikuyu traitors may vote for him — but a majority of Kenyans will never give this wickedly greedy and evil mad man the honor and privilege to be our president no matter how much Guest 1 and other idol worshippers dream about it!!!
