Johnstone Muthama has announced that he will not defend his Machakos Senate seat in the upcoming general elections, saying his decision was influenced by mismanagement within the Wiper Party.
Muthama accused Kalonzo Musyoka, the party leader, of being dictatorial in the management of the party, especially the nominations process. He says the party favored some aspirants over others, with some being handed direct nominations.
“I regret the way Wiper is being micro-managed to the disadvantage of some party members. My decision was influenced by the way Wiper affairs are being conducted,” Muthama said on Monday.
Muthama said Wiper Party carried out shambolic nominations in several counties marred by massive irregularities and rigging, with the end result being nominees who do not represent the will of the voters but that of party leadership.
“Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana and CCU leader Wavinya Ndeti were given tickets while others were left to go through nominations which were marred by irregularities,” added Muthama.
Muthama says as he ponders his next move, he will not campaign for any Wiper candidates anywhere in the country but will vigorously traverse the country campaigning for Raila Odinga, the NASA flag bearer.
