President Kenyatta has flagged off the Kenyan team to the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA.

Uhuru, who also flagged off a team that will represent Kenya at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in the UK, commended the sportsmen and women for bringing pride and honor to the country.

“…there’s no question in the minds of Kenyans that athletics has brought this nation great pride. And this has been made possible through you, because it is you who are the face of this great republic when you are out there. We are truly grateful for the efforts that you put in what you do,” said Kenyatta during the ceremony at State House, Nairobi on Tuesday.

The president further urged the teams to continue raising the country’s profile high by shining at global events, expressing satisfaction that the athletes were adequately prepared for the championships.

“There’s been a lot of work, a lot of efforts on your part, on the part of your coaches and the technical team, on the part of the Ministry, on the part of Athletics Kenya, on the part of the National Olympic Committee and all those who have been involved but at the end of the day it is your personal commitment that places you at the top of what our country has to offer,” he added.

Kenya is sending a contingent of 46 athletes to the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon while 157 athletes will represent the country at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth games.

I just read in the Daily Nation that Omanyala, and afew other athletes, and staff have not gotten their VISAs yet,as of today.Obviously this puts alot of anxiety on these athletes, and might make them lose focus.I hope all goes well.Go conquer the world team Kenya.

I wish team Kenya all the success. They bring us joy,and pride each time they will medals, and the national anthem is sung across the globe. That said, it is unfortunate that there have been some athletes who shamed the country due to breaking the “sports laws” by doping. It is in this vain that I am concerned as to why 3 Kenyans were dropped from the WC in Oregon. Their couch says that”they have learned the hard way”, whatever that means.Basically they did not meet the anti-doping requirement set forth by WC anti doping agency. They question is why? Championship games are usually known in advance so there is ample time to meet these requirements.
It is incumbent on all athletes, and staff to make sure that all requirements are met in time. This policy has been there for along time so why would an athletic power house like Kenya make such blunders? Is is due to incompetency? I hope not?Non the less, this needs urgent attention, especially when our print sensation Omanyala has yet to receive his Visa as of yesterday when his race begins on Friday, this week barely two days.

I mentioned doping in my last post. I just learned Nigel Amos from Botswana has been suspended for doping. This means that he will miss the WC in Oregon. Some of you may remember that he gave Rudisha arun for him money in various 800 meter races.

Well,is the risk worth it. recently,Okagbare the Nigerian sprinter has been banned for 11 years for doping.I ask Kenyan athletes,is it worth? I hope the answer is no,even though knowing human nature,we will still read about doping suspensions among Kenyan athletes. Its the nature of the beast… Iguess.
