Eliud Kipchoge Thanks Uhuru after Receiving Highest Civilian Award

Kenyan marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has thanked President Kenyatta for honoring him with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) award.

The 34-year-old marathon world record holder was honored with the title during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa on Sunday.

“My heartfelt gratitude to President of the Republic of Kenya for the highest award ever. Thank you, Mr. President, thank you Kenya,” Kipchoge tweeted on Monday.

The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH) is the highest civilian award in Kenya, only second to the Chief of the Order of the Golden Heart (CGH), which is mainly reserved for Heads of State.

Kipchoge was recognized for being the first man in history to complete a marathon in less than two hours during the recent INEOS 1:59 Challenge held in Vienna, Austria. He completed the 42km race in 1 hour, 59 minutes, 40 seconds.
