Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, who has been hailed as the greatest marathoner of all-time, on Sunday won the London Marathon title.
Kipchoge, who shattered the world record by more than a minute when winning the Berlin Marathon last year, has clocked 2 hours, 2 minutes, 37 seconds, making history as the first person to win four London Marathons!
Ethiopian duo Mosinet Geremew (2:02:55) and Mule Wasihun (2:03:16) have taken second and third places respectively.
In the Women’s race, Brigid Kosgei has led her compatriot Vivian Cheruiyot to a 1-2 Kenyan finish.
Ms. Kosgei has crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 18 minutes, 20 seconds ahead of Cheruiyot who has clocked 2:20:14.
Hongera sana Ndugu Kipchoge…
Hongera sana Ndugu Kipchoge kwa kuinua jina la Kenya Uingereza. Asante sana. Kongoi mising!
You are indeed G.O.A.T…
You are indeed G.O.A.T(greatest of all time). We look forward to seeing you for afew more years before you hang your spikes. Thanks again for making Kenya proud,as you have done on so many occasions .
I also applaud Brigit for continuing her winning ways from last year, and still at a tender age of 25, we look forward to seeing you cross the line on top.
I would suggest that we have a special day of honoring our athletes. It does not have to be a day off. On that day, we could all wear a shirts with the name of our favorite athlete.Excluding the dopers ofcourse.
We are indeed blessed. Our athletes are the envy of so many countries.Unfortunately the Arab continues with his” slave mentality” of buying our athletes to benefit him, under the guise of giving them opporunity to earn big money, instead of honing the skills of the Arab athletes. It is regrettable that the victim here is the Arab athlete. How will he/she develop talent when their slots are given to hired guns? And yes I know this is a controversial and sensitive issue…,but it has to be confronted. In the last world cross country championships, Team Turkey was made of all Kenyans,to the chagrin of many Turks.
To me if Kenyans will be running against Kenyans with different flags, the attraction to athletics, particulary marathon will start to wane. And this defeats the spirit of countries competing against each other. As I have said before,to combat this buying of athletes, athletic clubs could be formed, like soccer clubs where by you dont have to change your natinality. The Arabs are rich enough to come up with such clubs.Lets not kid ourselves, if you are paid to run for acountry, how does that truly make you a citizen? Once your services end,or you unfortunately get a life time injury, you are forgotten. From my understanding, just about all Kenyan athletes who went to Gulf States hardly live there. They spend all their time in Kenya.
A Kenyan running for USA,or for that matter another country will never be fully embraced as a “true” citizen of that country. I have mentioned this fact before, with examples.Put it another way, if Kenya basketball team was made of all Americans, would we really cheer genuinely as we would if they were all home grown?
Again thank you team Kenya for being good global ambassadors.
