Celebrated Kenyan Referee Aden Marwa Kicked Out of Russia FIFA World Cup After He’s Caught on Camera Receiving Sh60,000 Bribe

Celebrated Kenyan referee Aden Marwa will not be officiating matches at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia after bribery allegations.

The Star reports that FIFA has confirmed that Marwa has been kicked out of officiating the World Cup after a Ghananian journalist captured him on camera allegedly receiving a $600 (Sh60,000) bribe.

Marwa was among 10 assistant referees picked from Africa to officiate this year’s tournament that will start next week. The 41-year-old left the country for Russia on Saturday after Teachers Service Commission (TSC) granted him a one-month leave to undertake the task.

Marwa teaches Mathematics and Chemistry at Komotobo Secondary school in Kuria, Migori county. The exposé showing Marwa receiving a bribe in a hotel room was published by the BBC on Thursday.

His accuser said the video was shot during the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) tournament in Morocco and Marwa is heard acknowledging the bribe as a ‘gift’ to influence an unknown match.

“You know, thank you for the gift but the most important is that friendship, getting to know each other,”Marwa, who was on his seventh year serving as a Fifa referee, is heard saying.

Marwa flew the Kenyan flag high when he officiated the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

  1. As Ndugu Mutua the governor…
As Ndugu Mutua the governor of Machakos said recently, “…only lifestyle audit” will save our nation from its current state of moral decadence.

We must stop praying. Why? This is a waste of time and energy. If praying was meaningful and had results, Kenya would be a paradise by now through the time spent in praying.

We must re-examine our current negative behaviors towards looting and examine its origins. All our leaders immediately after independence just “aped” all the negative behaviors they had witnessed from the land
and property thieves from Europe and what they did to us.

Thieves came in many forms: administrators, land grabbers, hunters of our wild animals, rapists, and the worst category was made of “missionaries.” They lied to the people about life after death (heaven) and left they associate thieves (settlers and administrators) to get our properties. They lied to us that “praying” will solve our problems.

We must wipe the entire table clean (renaissance) and start all over again. The first item to get rid off is any activity that is based on “all foreign religions.”

Lifestyle audit is required of every government employees, elected embers of the parliament, judiciary, and the executive.

    • @Imara. Thanks for…
@Imara. Thanks for expressing the proposition above with no ambiguity. That we pray all the time kneeling, talking to walls, talking in toungues, prostrating to an ambiguous authority, you name it, but the capricious god we pray to does not hear our devout prayers. If he/she did, we would be a paradise, as you have said.

I totally agree with you that we ought to free our minds from these god(s) and religion, allow our free thought to apply already available laws and the constitution to its fullest strength to deal with all these corruption and other depravity affecting our society. Our biggest problem is deferring thought and action that we should take ourselves, to some invisible “fatherly” unresponsive deity, who has proven time and time the he/she has no interest in us, except of course for those willing to “suspend the laws of nature”.

  2. @ IMara what confounds me is…
@ IMara what confounds me is the way society looks at corruption alsmost as normal.I friend told me how he bribed a headmaster to have his son in the school of his choice. His did not see anything wrong.Just mission accomplished. We have to change this attitude. Both the briber and the bribee are equally guilty. Therefore both when caught should be equally punished.Just like we desired independence,we must use same drive to eradicate corruption.

We need to leave our corrupt habits in Kenya. The outside world does not torrerate petty corruption. If you must be corrupt outside Kenya, the go big.
