Kenya Women’s Rugby team, the Kenya Lionesses beat Uganda 29-7 to clinch the Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup title in a final held in Gaborone, Botswana on Sunday.
The Lionesses stormed to the finals after thrashing Madagascar 27-0 in the semis, while Uganda elbowed Tunisia 10-5 in the other last four encounter.
In the final, the Kevin Wambua’s outfit took a 22-0 lead at the interval through a brace of tries from both Michele Omondi and Janet Akello.
Kenya progressed to the next stage after winning 42-0 against Senegal in their opening fixture, before tearing Madagascar 41-0 in the preliminary matches to book their place in the last eight. They went ahead to destroy Zambia 41-7 in the quarterfinals.
Uganda on the other hand stormed to the quarters after a 22-0 win over Zimbabwe and a 10-10 draw with Tunisia in pool B. The Cranes went ahead to win 12-5 against Senegal to book Tunisia in the semis.
