Ongoing Sh5 Billion Affordable Housing Project in Pangani, Nairobi

In an effort to secure ideal locations for affordable housing projects, the government has extended an invitation to private landowners, offering them the opportunity to exchange their parcels with the State.

Applications are now being accepted by the Housing and Urban Development State Department from strategic partners. Projects that fall under the Affordable Housing Programme pipeline and other affordable housing initiatives on public or private land are encouraged to apply. For more effective project distribution, developers who wish to participate in the programme have been sorted based on their ability to handle projects.

The highest category encompasses developers who have the capability to complete projects consisting of over 100,000 housing units, followed by category B, which includes developers capable of undertaking projects ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 housing units. Category C encompasses developers who can undertake projects comprising 1,000 to 9,000 units, while the lowest category is reserved for developers whose capacity is limited to projects below 1,000 housing units.

“The state department now invites applications from interested and eligible strategic partners: developers and/or consortiums both local and international, with expertise in the development of affordable mass housing to undertake projects under the AHP within the cycle 2022-2025 through specially permitted procurement procedure,” the department says.

The Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), a joint undertaking involving the government and private landowners in prime locations, welcomes private individuals’ proposals to develop affordable housing on private or non-AHP public land, as long as they adhere to the AHP’s fundamental goals stipulated in the guidelines. Prior to the Finance Act 2023 which introduced the Housing Levy and facilitated the extensive implementation of the AHP, the state department had only mentioned that AHP projects would be established on public lands donated by the national or county governments.

    I have heard of horror financial outcomes when people do business with the Kenya government. Payments are not a guarantee and many have been left holding the bag.

    Everything about Ruto-e(CON)omics is a complete failure.overspending money can never solve one problem without raising ten more problems .All kenyans should be prepared for having a permanent colonoscopy as the economy is being destroyed as the government keep transferring more wealth to its gatekeepers.Also,If the country had strong accountability,transparency & family values, this generation could have benefitted from land inheritance to get a head start in housing even if it’s mud house in their name.
