Officials at the NCBA Bank Nakuru branch were left stunned after a man voluntarily returned Sh100,000 that was erroneously deposited into his MPesa account last month.
Stephen Waiganjo, a resident of Shauri Yako village in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, returned the money to the bank on Thursday morning.
The 40-year-old casual worker at the Eldama Ravine Sub-County Hospital received the money from the NCBA Bank Nairobi branch at around 10:00 am on January 27th.
For three weeks, Waiganjo has been waiting for someone to claim the money but this did not happen, prompting him to present himself to the bank’s Nakuru branch on Thursday, where the transaction was authorized for reversal.
The initiator of the transaction said Waiganjo’s phone number was entered into a payment schedule by mistake or maybe there was a mistake on one digit of the customer’s phone number.
The bank management praised Waiganjo for his honesty and kindness saying “people may be poor but rich in character.”
