A man in Nakuru County has handed his wife to police for buying a baby after faking pregnancy for nine months.
Wesley Rono from Ogilgei area in Kuresoi North sub-county told the media that he was excited when his wife first informed him that she was expecting a baby, but he later discovered she was faking a pregnancy.
The 31-year-old man says he chose not to confront his wife after the discovery and decided to wait and see how she plays it out to the end. Rono disclosed that his wife identified as Patricia was stuffing pieces of clothes on her stomach for it to appear like she was pregnant.
He would often give her money to visit clinics whenever she requested despite knowing that she was faking the pregnancy.
“She used to say she is going for pregnancy check-up in Kericho. I gave her money every time she needed it. I discovered that she was stashing clothes on her stomach but chose to play along like a fool to see the end motive,” Rono said.
Nine months later on August 8th, Patricia asked her husband to give her money to go and deliver the child at Kericho Hospital and he obliged. Later that day, Patricia informed him that she had given birth to a bouncing baby boy.
Patricia also told him that she would go to her parent’s home in Londiani to recuperate before joining him at their matrimonial home. Four days later, she came back home with a baby boy.
“After four days, I came home in the evening and found her with a child. I questioned her whether the child was born recently as she claimed. I faced her and asked whether she knew what she had done is a criminal offense,” Rono narrated.
Rono says his wife was not breastfeeding the infant and was instead feeding him cow milk. After confronting her, she admitted she bought the baby, prompting Rono to call the police.
Upon interrogation, Patricia said she bought the baby in a bid to save her marriage due to her inability to conceive. The couple has stayed in the marriage for five years without siring a child.
She bought the child from a nearby village for Sh2,650 plus tea seedlings. The woman wanted Sh50,000 but she was unable to raise the amount so Patricia gave her tea seedlings worth the amount.

My concern in this story is why the husband played along with this spurious tale.There was no reason to play along.I would also hope that she was sure that the problem of fertility was on her side. Often in the past men have assumed that it was the woman’s “fault” Erroneously of course.Science tells us that when it comes to fertility issues, men are as much at’ fault’ as women.Take that you male chauvinists .Additionally,with all these divorces,and cheating,how sure was she that having a child would save her marriage?Certainly it pays to try to save your marriage,but at what cost?

Lord please have mercy on her. Only a woman can understand and sympathise with her plight. Praying for a happy ending….not right that she lied, but one has to look at the bigger picture. The husband is also unkind to watch her go through the mental agony and not stop the process before it went too far. The man should have manned up enough and supported his dear wife at least, emotionally or even seek the help of a counselor if there is one around.
