Miss Black Wisconsin: US Beauty Queen Keerah Carter Visits Kenya to Support Widows

US beauty queen, Keerah Carter is on a tour to Kenya where she is running an empowerment program for girls, widows, and vulnerable groups.

This week, the 28-year-old visited the Widows Training Centre in Ngere Kagoro village, Muhoroni, Kisumu County where she presided over a tree-planting exercise.

The Widows Training Center is an initiative funded by her family in collaboration with the Andre Patrice Carter Foundation.

The center supports widows neglected by their families by equipping them with life, entrepreneurship, handicrafts, tailoring, hairdressing, among other skills.

Speaking at the facility, Keerah said widows and young girls face many challenges, adding that concerted efforts are required to help them become self-reliant.

“With God everything is possible. You just have to be focused and committed to your objectives. Be dedicated and you will achieve whatever you desire,” she told young girls.

Keerah was last month crowned Miss Black Wisconsin paving the way for her to run for Miss Black America in 2021.

Jane Ayoo, the leader of Tintoler Community-Based Organization thanked Keerah and the foundation for their support.

“Amongst us, there are those who became widows at a younger age. We thank Andre Carter for the support. She’s a godsend,” Ayoo said.

“She has shown us how to fish for ourselves and now it is a challenge to us to be hardworking and innovative.”
