Citizen television news anchor Jacque Maribe’s father, Mwangi Maribe says her daughter’s life could be in danger should she testify against her fiancée Joseph Irungu alias Jowie in slain business lady Monica Kimani’s case.
Speaking to Daily Nation, Mr Maribe claimed that Jowie is a well connected man and testifying against him would leave his daughter in danger.
“He may not have committed the crime alone. The man has deep connections with shadowy people. His accomplices may be out there and may go after my daughter if she testifies against him. She could live in fear for the rest of her life,” Mr Maribe told the Nation and hinted at advising her against testifying against her fiancée.
Maribe further said that his daughter is only a victim of love and the only reason she was arrested over the murder is because of her celebrity status. He described the journalist as “disciplined”.
“Police want to become famous by nailing a celebrity. That is why my daughter is in custody. Her neighbour, Brian Kassaine, also has a partner. Why is she not in custody? Her biggest mistake was falling in love,” he added.
The father also disclosed that her daughter was planning end her relationship with Jowie on the night of September 20th.
“She asked Irungu to return her car keys and ATM card. Even when they went back to the house, Jacque threw some of his clothes out. The man threatened to kill himself after Jacque said she would leave him. He borrowed a gun and shot himself,” he continued.
In a report on Friday, the Nairobian said the Maribe family was opposed to their daughter marrying Irungu describing him as a “controlling, manipulative, boastful and one with anger issues.”
Ms Maribe and Irungu remain in custody pending completion of investigations into Monica’s gruesome murder.
The victim was killed in her apartment in Nairobi’s Kilimani area on September 20th and her body dumbed in a bathtub with the throat slit. She had just returned to Kenya from South Sudan, where she was reportedly running a family business.
No wonder your daughter is…
No wonder your daughter is in this predicament. Your idea of a ‘victim of love’ is silly hope you didn’t teach her that. Even if your daughter was innocent, you are now suggesting that she lies, incriminates herself and rot in prison as opposed to set herself free by telling the truth and sorting security issues later. Her being a celebrity has nothing to do with her actions after the fact. I do empathize with you as a father and I can only ask that you be calculated in your utterance and do no harm by shutting up.
You have nailed it! Birds of…
You have nailed it! Birds of a feather flock together, and a bird cannot fly on one wing. Maribe is guilty by association, at the very least, because she lied to investigators initially. The best that can happen to her, as the less evil, is to take the first deal she gets from the state! Let her sing, for a reduced sentence. First to talk, first to walk.
