Deputy President William Ruto and a section of leaders from the Rift Valley have reacted to a recently released vernacular song, saying that Mt Kenya voters have no obligation to vote for a particular presidential candidate in the 2022 elections.
The Kikuyu song titled, Hatuna deni ya mtu’ (which loosely translates to ‘we are in nobody’s debt’), has since gone viral on social media.
The song appears to be targeted at Deputy President William Ruto, who allegedly entered into a pact with President Uhuru in 2013 that he will back his candidature once he completes two terms in 2017.
It says the Central Kenya region has no debt to pay to Ruto as he seeks to inherit the Presidency from President Kenyatta in 2022, sparking uproar from leaders allied to Ruto.
“These songs you’re hearing… these handshakes you see…we want to assure you that, as leaders from the Rift Valley, we are behind William Ruto and we will not allow anybody to disrespect our leader and the journey he began long ago,” said Nominated MP Gideon Keter on Sunday.
Keiyo South MP Daniel Rono stated that: “The issue of singing to us about debts…we will not be shaken by that. We went round in 2013 and 2017, brought votes and Ruto and Uhuru went to State House. That is the same way we will go round in 2022.”
Jubilee party succession plan reportedly stated that Ruto supports President Kenyatta for the first ten years, after which Kenyatta would return the favor by supporting him to rule for 10 years from 2022.
Addressing worshippers at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi on Sunday, DP Ruto also appeared to respond to the song by stating that nobody owed any community or individual, including himself, anything.
“I want to remind leaders what Paul says in Romans 13:8; owe no man nothing except the debt of love for one another,” he said.
“That is the debt that all of us have, to love one another; no person, no community, no section of Kenya, owes anybody – including myself – anything.”
Here is the song:
Bwana Ruto, the reality…
Bwana Ruto, the reality will hit home whether you like it or not. It’s called nagging past in the present- Kenyans were burnt alive in a church to the dismay of the whole world. You and Raila are yet to tell us why you burnt Kenyans alive in a house God. God don’t like ugly and truth must be revealed and punishment meted out by the Almighty God. This issue will not go away until justice for the victims, both the living and the dead, is handed down.
MT Kenya like playing games…
MT Kenya like playing games. We will see soon ,how thqe game plays.WHO CARES
Rayila is helping Mt . Kenya…
Rayila is helping Mt . Kenya dig Their own sinkholes…Be carful money arrogant creatures..It might bite hard..MOMBASA SI KENYA , RIFTVALLEY CLOSE DOORS, LUO NYANZA ALL ARE AWARE, WESTERN WILL TAKE STRONGER SIDE, SOUTH EASTERN/CENTRAL WALK ALL WAYS,NORTH SIDE MOST LIKE WILL SIDE MT.kenya., MAJORITY WILL IGNORE STUPID GAME CALLED ERECTION AND THAT MOST IMPORTANT… TRUMP AND DUERTRTE BE BORN AGAIN.
Is this their right time to…
Is this their right time to talk why didn’t they say so after 2013 election? ld this is their style, well they must also forget leadership forever coz no community will ever trust them again
My Kenya cannot be herded…
My Kenya cannot be herded like sheep. This is what has destroyed our country. Mt. Kenya must decide and vote as individuals. They must decide based on each candidates character, track record and one who will be for the best interest of the country. The Dynasties are coming to an end and so are those who have gained power through violence and death. No person can protect Mt. Kenya, only their God. Mt Kenya must put their trust in God. Mt Kenya must pray for peace but prepare for war ( that is the reality). It is a crime to forget all those who participated in burning people in the house of God and so is a crime to forget those who were burnt. If the government cannot do anything, the community can. We have to take responsibility for our actions. God help Kenya!!!
