President Kenyatta Named Second Most Followed African Leader on Facebook with 3.5 Million Followers

President Kenyatta Named Second Most Followed African Leader on Facebook with 3.5 Million Followers

President Kenyatta has been ranked the second most followed African leader on social networking site, Facebook.

The Kenyan Head of State has 3.5 million followers on the social media platform and was listed second in Africa in the newly released 2018 “World Leaders on Facebook” report.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is the most followed leader in the African continent with over 7.2 million followers. Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, comes in 3rd behind Kenyatta with about 1.6 million followers.

The study monitored the the activity of 650 Facebook pages belonging to heads of state, government and foreign ministers from January 1st, 2017, using aggregate data from Facebook’s Crowdtangle tool.

In the world, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most followed leader with 43.2 million followers, while US President Donald Trump is second with 23.1 million followers.

Queen Rania of Jordan is third with 16 million followers ahead of the institutional page of the Indian PM @PMOIndia, with 13.9 million followers. Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia closed the top five most followed world leaders with 9.6 million followers.

 President Trump’s Facebook page had the highest interactions of any world leader with a total of 204.9 million interactions, while Modi’s was second with 113.6 million interactions.

“It is clear that world leaders are increasingly using social media to communicate directly with their constituents and platforms like Facebook to bring a personal, humanizing tone to their communications,” Chief Innovation Officer Chad Latz said.
