Kenya Airways (KQ) has confirmed the death of a passenger at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The national carrier says the deceased developed breathing complications while boarding one of its flights that was scheduled to depart for Mombasa on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, the passenger passed away while being attended to by the medical personnel at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
“Kenya Airways PLC (“KQ”), regrets to announce that a passenger developed breathing difficulties this evening while boarding KQ612 that was scheduled to depart for Mombasa at 1900hours,” the airline said in a statement.
“The passenger was pronounced dead by medical personnel at JKIA while the aircraft was still on the ground.”
The airline said the JKIA Health and Security agencies are currently handling the issue.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” it added.
This is the third death in less than a month that the airline has reported. On 1st September, Kenya Airways reported the death of a passenger on its flight heading to Nairobi from New York.
KQ said the passenger died from an unknown illness in the early morning hours aboard flight KQ002. Attempts by the medical team to save the passenger’s life were in vain as he was pronounced unresponsive after passing out.
On August 22nd, KQ flight KQ003 from New York to Nairobi was forced to make an emergency landing in Casablanca, Moroccan after a passenger fell ill mid-air. The patient was pronounced dead upon arrival.
