The final presidential election results will be released sohrtly, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said. IEBC had set the results to be announced at 3pm Kenyan time (8am EDT).
At the time of this writing (8:35am EDT the announcement had yet to be made.
The much-awaited announcement will be made by IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, who is the returning officer for the presidential election, at the national tallying centre based at the Bomas of Kenya.
IEBC officials, party agents and observers have camped at the national tallying centre since Tuesday verifying the presidential results from all the 290 constituencies.
UDA presidential candidate William Ruto and his Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya coalition counterpart Raila Odinga are in a neck-and-neck race to succeed President Kenyatta.
To win the election in the first round, a candidate must attain at least 50 percent plus one vote of the total valid votes cast. He/she is also required to get at least 25 percent of the votes in at least 24 of the 47 counties.
